WOODCARVING STUDIO

Best in the Hudson Valley Award for custom woodcarving studios.
Sonrise Woodcarving Studio began in 1986 when my hobby of realistic wildlife carving became the only means of supporting my family as the recession of those years took hold.
MASTER CRAFTSMANSHIP
IN THE OLD WORLD AND AMERICAN
WOOD CARVING AND WOODWORKING TRADITIONS
Now offering the beauty of the sculptures of
Ghana, West Africa, by the skilled hands of
master artist Maxwell Kofi Donkor
Over the past several years Sonrise Woodcarving Studio has redefined its objectives and become more diverse in its offerings. The current recession cum depression has radically impacted the architectural carvings market, and I have also rediscovered the pleasures of being artistically creative. It is my desire to discover as many ways as possible to offer fine custom wood carving to as wide ranging an audience as I can: I hope that this web gallery gives you some small taste of what might be possible and affordable to you.
Over time I taught myself my skills as a traditional carver, the lion’s share of my woodcarving work consisting of high-end reproduction mantel pieces and other architectural carving for a major Manhattan fireplace furnishings company. This ongoing exposure to the best of the best in European and American wood carving and design enabled me to refine my own skills to the museum quality levels that I work to today.
