As a Christian minister who acknowledges that this talent I have with woodcarving is wholly a gift from God, I take real pleasure in creating beautiful things for Christ’s people. These include all manner of podiums, altars, tables, crosses, Celtic crosses, and inspirational sculptures for the 21st Century Advancing Church. But please do not ask me to carve crucifixes: My Lord is risen and no longer on the cross. I will carve Christ the Victor and Christ the King, but not the suffering Christ.

I no longer try to compete with the myriad of commercial sign companies in the field of sign making. I simply endeavor to create carved signs and logos that begin where computerized graphics and sandblasting and such technologies leave off. I am able to design and to create unique carved signs and logos for private or business settings that will always stand out from those around them. If you would like something uniquely special, then I can offer it to you.
I enjoy working with a chainsaw, but I have discovered that my years of detail work have made me more of a sculptor than a chainsaw carver, so my chainsaw carvings tend to be carefully executed and refined with quite a bit of detail. If you are interested in the beauty of refined wildwood statuary and chainsaw-style art, or if you have a dead or dying tree that you would rather not have become firewood, please give me a call.

You will be hard pressed to find another carving shop anywhere as diverse or as expert as Sonrise Woodcarving Studio.
Neither words, nor pictures, adequately describe my koi pond and trout stream coffee tables and bars. The koi pond tables contain a hand carved all wood sculpture of swimming koi that is reminiscent of traditional oriental scroll paintings. I have over a hundred designs for these tables, and each is a custom project. The trout stream tables center around five twelve inch trout of a variety of your choosing swimming in their native habitat. The koi tables have an Asian design appeal. The trout tables are more suited to the den or the country lodge. I also have a series of wall sculptures that are complements of these table designs.
For most of the past two and a half decades I have been carving heirloom quality reproduction mantelpieces and other “classical” applications using traditional tools and time-honored techniques. I can reproduce details from any period and can make repairs to damaged carvings. At this point in time I do not build furniture, other than fireplace mantelpieces, nor do I do any finishing work, but I am able to work closely with your designers and builders on any custom projects. All my work is by custom commission, and is accomplished in close communication with my clients.
With the addition of internationally awarded Kofi Donkor to Sonrise Woodcarving Studio we now are able to offer exquisite handmade African drums and other traditional African musical instruments and original sculptures carved by Kofi in the unique style that he learned while growing up in his village in Ghana and as he studied his art later in university.
